Barcelona 3 - Sporting Gijon 0 (La Liga)

First game of the La Liga season for Barca against newly-promoted Sporting, and from a Xavi corner after 17 minutes, Bojan Krkic managed to bundle the ball over the line at the back post. Just before the break Barca doubled their lead as Seydou Keita headed home a Dani Alves cross. The Nou Camp received the icing on the cake in the final 10 minutes as Zlatan Ibrahimovic opened his account for the Catalans.

Barcelona 2 Shakhtar Donetsk 1 (Uefa Super Cup)

The first half of the Super Cup was a lacklustre affair, Barcelona creating more chances than Shakhtar but unable to find the net. The second half also brought no goals, Zlatan embarrassing himself with a pitiful effort way off target, but the game was spiced up when Leo Messi and Dario Srna clashed head-to-head. Unfortunately the match was forced into extra time, but five minutes from time Messi played a lovely one-two with Pedro Rodriguez who curled home the winner as Barca won their second trophy of the year.
